Congratulations! To first grade students for
SUCCESSFULLY completing both the reading and math MAPS Testing! Results will be
available to parents in the upcoming weeks.
You may have noticed reward
baggies being sent home with one piece of candy for each point of growth since
their fall scores. As a first grade team, we will be having a POPCORN &
MOVIE celebration this afternoon!
Next week we will begin
Spring DIBELS assessments. I am hoping to be finished by Friday! Each child
will take an individual assessment with me that lasts only 5-10 minutes.
Students will be tested on Nonsense Word Fluency and Oral Reading Accuracy.
May 2nd was
National “Go the Distance Day.” To celebrate, our class walked the track for 30
minutes to support physical activity.
Today we went to the Cadet
Store and turned in some of our Cadet Dollars to buy items! Some of us are
choosing to save our money and hopefully buy a bigger item later on!
Thanks Lydia & Erica for
hiding your snakes on and under my desk!!
It seems as though some
students already have an “end of the year” countdown in their minds!! We are
still trying to squeeze as much reading, writing, math, science, etc. into our
days as possible! We began both a new literacy and science unit. We are
learning about animal habitats, plant and animal needs, adaptations, etc. We
put up our fish tank and Michelle Ahern graciously went to WalMart on Wednesday
and brought back fish! We will be studying fish characteristics and at the end
of May we will travel to Lake Meyer and the Fish Hatchery to see natural fish
habitats!
