What is responsibility?
Students who are responsible are dependable to their friends and teachers! We have been asking questions and determining times when we were responsible!!

This week we have talked about similes and metaphors!!

Payton created a metaphor yesterday about our browsing boxes!!

"Mrs. Rausch, our browsing boxes are having a crazy hair day!!" This metaphor means that our books were not put back in an organized manner... they were WILD! Thanks for your observations Payton!!

We are also incorporating one of our Social Studies units into our study of being a good citizen! We have been learning about government and how to be a good citizen in our city, state, and country!

In Math... We had two challenges this week! The first was the called the STRAW CHALLENGE!

Groups of 3-4 were given straws and twist ties. They had 20 minutes to build the tallest free-standing structure possible!

Our tallest structure was about 35"!!

The second challenge was presented to us from Mr. Steffen's 6th grade class. It is called the "Marshmallow Challenge!" Students were given 20 spagetti sticks, 1 marshmallow, 1 yard of masking tape, and 1 yard of string. They were given 18 minutes to construct a free-standing structure.

Our tallest structure was 17"

Here are some of our other structures:

We even found some time for math outside! What a beautiful week!!

Science Fun!!

We took "Rolling Things" outside this week to determine if changing the weight of our cars would change how our car crashed. Guess what? It did!! Please ask your child what happened when we put more weight on our car!!

Book Orders will be coming home tonight! The May book orders happen to be the best array of books that I have seen all year!!

Please check out the selection of non-fiction books! Non-Fiction books are factual. Our class loves them!

Also check out the independent reading selection! There are tons of chapter books and other readers!!
