Happy Friday to All!

We have had a busy week... Check out our happenings below!

Welcome to our class! We introduced 8 new fish as our classroom pets. We have been discussing "A Perfect Place to Live" in Lead 21 and we thought the introduction of  our science unit "Observing An Aquarium" would be a perfect addition! We are discussing:
Habitats                        Basic Needs
                           Protection                     Shelter

Here are our pets:
Lily
Mysterio
Fins
Kinzey
Ty
Bubbles
Goldie
Black Head

Rolling Things... We began another science unit this week! It is called "Rolling Things." Our objective is to better understand how things move. The first grade was awarded a grant from S.T.E.M. and were able to purchase the materials. We have 2 ramps for each classroom. Our students are investigating how different sizes, shapes, and weights of wooden vehicles affect their speed & distance down a ramp. The differentiation of ramp heights also plays a part. Check out some of our pictures:

Testing... If your child was concerned about his/her teeth last night it might have something to do with SUGAR!! I gave students jolly ranchers to suck on during their assessments yesterday. I told them that if they were still testing when their jolly rancher ran out, they could have another! They worked very hard on their first of four tests!! Let's home today, Tuesday & Wednesday go as smoothly!!

In Math... we are working on identifying new types of shapes! The words "polygons," "sphere," "cone," "cube," etc. will be used quite frequently during the next few weeks! Please help your child identify these types of shapes at home!

Literacy... We continue studying habitats and what makes a perfect place to live! We have added to our "glogster" this week. I want to share these amazing projects with you... but you will have to wait until they are complete! Your child is quickly becoming an expert on whichever habitat they are reading about in guided reading! Please ask them to share with you!

Let's Look at Next Week:

This will place me absent from our 1B classroom on both Friday and Monday. I am excited to learn new teaching & learning techniques that I can bring back and help improve student achievement!! I will share the highlights of our trip with you following our return!
