World Read Aloud Day!
On Wednesday, we celebrated (as most students around the WORLD did)by reading, reading, reading....
We began our day "buddy reading" with Mrs. Vsetecka's 2nd grade class!
We read Dr. Seuss books to each other...

And books out of our Browsing Boxes!
Next... The K-2 students Skype'd with Janet Stevens, the author and illustrator of
Tops and Bottoms
Check out her website: http://www.janetstevens.com/
Mrs. P. chatted with us via Skype about the various ways to read, the importance of reading, and how to make reading fun! I have to admit that it was very entertaining even for the adults!
You might recognize Mrs. P. as TV actress Kathy Kinney (Drew Carey show)
Check out her website.. She has AWESOME videos!
The Cat In the Hat visited us to read the book Sweet Tooth. We also had a special guest "voice" who played the tooth.. we were able to meet her after the story was over! You may recognize her as a 4th grade teacher and mother one of our 1st grade friends... Cole!!
(Thanks Mrs. Foster & Mrs. Suckow)

And Finally.... Our class Skype'd with Mrs. Mahr's first grade class in Lime Springs. Cloey read their class a Dr. Seuss book and they chose a first grade student to read to us. Susie was excited to share her friends with our class! We hope to Skype with them again soon!
In total, we read for 170 minutes during W.R.A.D.!!
Literacy
In Lead 21, we will be finishing our theme "Stories of Our Past" next week! It has been exciting to see students attempt to visualize what life was like before they were born!
The vocabulary words we have learned during this theme are:

Today we were excited to have Mrs. Butler's 6th grade class help us with our inquiry projects! We will be researching and becoming experts on our given topic and will record videos using Videolicious (iPad app)! We hope to display these for you during the Literacy and Technology Night next Thursday!
Make Plans To Attend!
1B Students are working very hard to provide you with entertaining, educational, and informational activities in our classroom! They will be "experts" on various literacy and technology devices we use on a daily basis! I hope you come prepared to learn!!
