Stomp Out Bullying!
This week we learned
about bullying and the importance of standing up to bullies! We read the books
"One" and "Chester Raccoon & The Big Bad
Bully". First grade students huddled into the shape of two large
feet as our protest to bullying! See the photo below!
Lead 21 this week introduced us to the idea that things in our world move and change. Concepts we practiced were sequencing events, making predictions, and using dictionaries. Students worked on fluency by reading to self, reading to someone, and reading to teacher!! I hope that you have found time to begin our at-home reading program! Many of you have sent reading folders back to school more than one time!! Thanks for your support in continuing your child's education at home!
Math lessons this week had us continuing to practice counting money! We counted pennies and nickels. We practiced trading 5 pennies for one nickel. Students played games that involved money!
Field Trip!!
On Wednesday, the first grade students traveled to Lake Meyer (Calmar/Fort Atkinson) and to the Fish Hatchery (Decorah). We had a great time at Lake Meyer. Our guide (Lily) took us on a nature hike and we were able to look for wildlife along the way! Students had a blast trying to jump and yell in order to scare frogs into the water! See the link to our video below.
Lily also had examples of fur that we had to guess what animal they belonged to. See this video below:
At the fish hatchery, we were able to learn about the varieties of trout stocked at the Decorah Hatchery. Our guide showed us the natural spring and even pulled a fish out of the water for us to see! Check out the video belos:
