Wow! What a Week!
This week we began "reading groups." Students met with Mrs. Rausch at the guided reading table and read a book that helped us to answer the question: "How do plants and animals grow and change?" These books are being stored in your child's browsing box. They are able to read this books to self or someone during Daily Five. In Lead 21, we began reading a book about how plants and animals grow and change. We learned that a particular type of cactus lives to be 150 years old. The first 10 years of its life it only grows 1 1/2 inches tall! We also learned about a butterfly that only lives to be 1 year old!
Non-Fiction vs. Fiction. The book we read in Lead 21 was a non-fiction book and students get excited about seeing real pictures and learning facts!
What is Fiction?
Fiction: Books that are made up by the author, or are not true, are fiction. The pictures are usually drawings or paintings.
Non-Fiction: Books that are about real people, places, things and events. When looking for Non-Fiction books, see if the pictures are real pictures taken from a camera!
Our math series introduced us to calculators. We experimented with typing in numbers, clearing the screen, and even adding two numbers together! We were introduced the penny! We know that a penny is worth one cent. We know that it is made out of copper, and the face of the penny has an imprint from our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln! Our class was given the opportunity to investigate pennies and play games that involved counting pennies!
