We have quite a busy week! We will begin our second Unit of Lead 21. In this unit, we will discuss "How does our world change?" Questions we will answer will be "how do plants and animals grow and change?" "How do things move and change?" How does nature affect the way we move and change?" "How can matter change?" Students love this unit because many of the books we will read will be "non-fiction," meaning that they are factual. Many of the pictures will be real pictures, opposed to drawings!
In Being a Writer, we will read the book All By Myself by Mercer Mayer. We will discuss things that students can do all by themselves! Students will focus on hearing & discussing good writing. They will visualize and write about things they can do. They will practice using uppercase letters at the beginnings of sentences and periods at the ends. Students will reread their writing and relate illustrations to writing! They have already been making such great progress in handwriting and I cannot wait to share these things with parents at conferences!!
In handwriting, we will be practicing the letters f, b, l, t, and h.
In math, we will explore lengths, rulers, and dominoes. We will examine pennies, nickels and practice counting them! Money is a very difficult subject for first graders! Please help out at home by completing the "home links" math homework that will be coming home! Be patient with your child because the more we practice, the better we will become at counting and trading money!!
